Instagram is the perfect tool to capture your everyday life in beautiful, vibrant images. If you’re starting to feel like those photos are going to waste in the virtual world, it doesn’t take much to bring them to life in your own home.
There are plenty of websites that will print your Instagram pictures any way you want. You can print them into small Polaroid-like squares, blow them up into posters, print them on to iPhone covers or even turn them into nail art and have them printed on to false nails!
Here are three inspiring ways to turn your everyday snaps into decorations around your home.
Create a foodie masterpiece on your fridge
Food is one of the most popular items captured on Instagram and with filters like Hefe and Lo-Fi your dishes look professional and delectable, even when made at home. Pick your favourites - whether it’s that mouth-watering fresh pasta dish you had in Rome or your most-loved meal that you cook with your husband - and have them printed onto squares. If you want to go the easy route, online stores like Sticky9 will print your images directly onto small magnets, otherwise you can get a bit crafty and do it yourself.
hh idea: why not snap a photo of your go-to meals, turn them into fridge magnets then create a weekly menu plan on your fridge with your photos!
How to make Instagram fridge magnets: You’ll need square printouts of your Instagram photos, magnets, square coasters or cardboard, Mod Podge, a glue gun and a paintbrush. Cut your images to fit the coaster or cardboard square. Use the Mod Podge as glue to stick the photo to your coasters and smooth out any air bubbles. Once it has dried, paint another layer of Mod Podge over the photo to seal it (hh tip: don’t forget to paint Mod Podge around the edges). Leave it to dry. Use the hot glue gun to attach magnets to the back of the photos. Now your favourite photos are ready to stick on your fridge!
Create a travel inspiration board in your home office
Instagram is full of beautiful images that are meant to be shared and reposted (just make sure you always credit the original photographer). If you find yourself getting holiday envy over your friend’s posts about their trip to Belize or seeing incredible shots of Australia on a travel blogger's Instagram feed, start collecting them to create a travel inspiration board of your own. Print out a few photos of places you hope to one day visit and post them up in your home office to give yourself a bit of extra inspiration. Alternatively, you can put up photos of trips you’ve taken to remind yourself of the great times you’ve had abroad.
Create a collage of family memories
Instagram was only launched in 2010 so you may only have about four years’ worth of memories on your account - but thanks to the popular #throwbackthursday hashtag (which encourages people to post photos and memories from the past) you’ll probably have some golden oldies in your collection as well. Either by using a website that creates Instagram collages such as PosterCandy, or printing out the images and piecing them together yourself you can make a great family memento. Take images from major moments like your brother’s university graduation or that amazing family trip you took to the Great Barrier Reef and collate them into a piece of art. Rather than having just one family portrait on the wall you can create a beautiful collage of memories and experiences.
